** ALASKA - 2002**

** JUNEAU visited !! **

This page updated on 23 March 05

23 May 02 (Thursday- cont)

I had more refreshments at 'teatime' - followed by KARL FINGER'S 'singalong' (folk-music mainly).

After this 'dinner' our whole table (except Isla) went to the CABARET starring the SINGING Phillipino Waiters - as well as several passengers in various costumes, NB the SHEET family - with 'Holy Sheet' etc!!

With a calm sea, I settled down for a CALM trip to JUNEAU.

24 May 02 (Friday)

I overslept until 7.00am when I got up for a good BREAKFAST (buffet -style) - also taking some of EACH of my medical tablets.

Then, at just after 8am, I walked around JUNEAU for a while, taking the low level, then UP Main Street to "7th Street", then down "Gold", "4th" and "N. Franklin St" to the low areas, where I puchased a re-stock of my refreshments (and an ice-cream!).

There, I met some Seattle residents who couldn't understand my ENGLISH (pity that the Americans don't learn it!) - and a self-confessed SCHIZOPHRENIC (from Colorado) who chatted for ages - and asked many questions to build on her readings.

I returned to the ship and cashed a $20 travellers cheque.

Then I took a further walk before lunch to the top of town (on 7th Street!) and beyond. That took me to the 'wilder' parts of GOLD CREEK after I'd had a snack near GOLD CREEK BRIDGE. Beyond the NO CAMPING sign , it got wilder and was without tarmac!

I had to remind myself that this town had been the sight of many MASSIVE AVALANCHE events from off the surrounding mountains!!

Following that detour, I returned to the ship for a good lunch (it replaced my depleted energy!) - and then watched a video on 'WEATHER'. Then I went to the 'Grill' for a coffee, followed by the Promenade Deck for a walkabout! Then it was 'back to the cabin' for a video on the "search for LONGITUDE."
