The third Major Country Music Festival that I attended was at the BREAN SANDS, Somerset, site managed
by PONTIN'S.
It ran for a week, their normal way of doing things, and this was from 10 Ocober '81
until 16 October '81.
The highlight of the week would be the presence of the famous FRANK IFIELD
(on the Thursday) - but there would also be many performers, at a phenomenally economic
entrance fee (thanks to the 'vision' of the late Bob Chappell). A whole week here costs less than a
day at Wembley!!
Apart from the musical attractions (my main reason for going) there were many other
attractions like:-
Country Music quizzes
Talent competitions
Country Dancing (Really into this for the SECOND time)
Fast-draw competitions
Square Dancing (Really into this for the SECOND time)
and much more!!!
Performers appearing (apart from Frank Ifield) were:
Randy Wade
Ellie King
Carl Gibson
Mustang
Tone Howard (Square Dance caller and instructor)
Naden Brothers
Tony Best
Cotton Mill Boys
Ian Ashcroft
West Virginia
Burnt Ash
Colorado
Suffolk Punch
Gerry Ford

Johnny Spencer
American Expression
ROY DRUSKY
Carey Duncan & Front Page
Brian Preston
Culpepper
Max Barnes
Bob Everhart
That was sure "one hell of a line-up" - and the continuation of a decade with my support. It
followed on from the start of the best-ever holiday series (in the April) that I was ever to attend.
SQUARE DANCING

Again, with our wonderful caller/instructor TONE HOWARD who had his own way of ensuring
that everyone had a 'partner' of the opposite sex (see April's report). That didn't take very long
with Tone's bubbly personality.
I was now into "American Squares" in a BIG way, an activity that was to be a major part of my
life for about a DECADE.
