		CAMPING CLUB HISTORY OF ROY

My Camping Club history probably started in about 1965, when I bought my first book on MODERN CAMPING from them!

Initially, I used the 'Club' for info and travelling friends around the UK.

Later, I joined the overseas camping fraternity by travelling to FRANCE (1971 and 1972) before visiting HOLLAND (1983) and further afield.

In FRANCE (1971 & 1972), I met many good friends from ALL nations - enjoying the humour and cracking jokes in French that 'went down very well'. Camping in BELGIUM(1983) and LUXEMBURG (1983) also provided us with many pleasures as well as international experiences.

Our trips to SWITZERLAND (1983) fulfilled even more long-felt desires and experiences - and explorations around SCOTLAND (1969) and its islands were made easier.

Because of the INTERNATIONAL aspects of the 'Camping Club', several of my excursions were facilitated by their provision of GREEN CARD, other essential paperwork and their international guide to Camp Sites.

The UK was not ignored as I went with my family to the FOREST OF DEAN, also to the Oxford DA's meetings, South Wales (1974), a SCOTTISH TOUR (also 1974) - whilst 1975 saw us joining in with the WEST WALES D.A., the Hereford & Worcestershire D.A and the NORTHANTS D.A.. We also toured the LAKE DISTRICT as a family in 1976.

In 1977, we also joined camping-friends in mid-Wales on multiple visits, - and also covered London, Snowdonia, Scheveningen (the Netherlands) and Amsterdam separately. 1978, again, saw us in Welshpool as well as in Scotland (for the Highand Games and a Safari), in the Isle of Skye and also BRUSSELS.

1979 saw us in Spalding for the TULIP FESTIVAL, as well as Scotland (again) and many parts of Wales, the company being shared with another family from Malvern.

1980 saw us in Yorkshire (coastal and inland sites) and EUROPE again (camping at such places as Lyons, Barcelona, St Tropez, Nice, Monaco, Venice, Innsbruck, Heidelberg and Amsterdam) - before the UK's usual visit to Blackpool in September.

My wife and family made a 1981 tour of the resorts along LYME BAY, Devon and Somerset.

That was virtually the end of my voyages with the 'Camping Club' as our lives were about to change in so many ways.
