CHAPTER FOUR

CASABLANCA and RABAT

24 October 2000 (continued)

The main coach journey from MARRAKECH was via the desert and green 'arable' areas, passing SETTAT and Berrechid, with a lunch-stop at CASABLANCA. I walked, there, with Geraldine, to the beach, some rocks and part of the town until others started their minor expeditions for 'food only'!

Geraldine and I had some pleasant 'togetherness' in our wanderings - both of us involving our cameras in making records of our 'sights'.

The beach at Casablanca

A typical street in Casablanca

The 'front' at Casablanca

When the coach restarted, we toured CASABLANCA but at a 'photostop' at the HASSANTI MOSQUE, my camera refused to work (still reading 8 on its dial). On leaving the town, we hit the 'pay-road' for the CASABLANCA to RABAT leg of the journey. At RABAT, we are staying at the very stylish HILTON (for 'heads of state, kings and Bill Clinton!). All guests could have their bookings terminated should someone REALLY important 'turn up'. As we approached, the transport from the other direction didn't appear to indicate that we'd have to be cancelled!!

After this long trip and 'wait' - I only JUST 'made' the toilet!! (That was a 'bit too close' for comfort!) I soon found out that they did fabulous food here, including both the MAIN course and SWEET course twice each!

On switching the batteries between my SHAVER and the CAMERA - the latter still refused to operate. Perhaps I can buy some on the boat tomorrow with PESETAs!? We had come about 240 miles on the coach today -and the mealtime saw me in earnest conversation with six Americans at my table. It was fun - both verbally and gastronomically!!

25 October 2000 (Wednesday)

After a couple of toilet-trips during the night, I got up for FULL ablutions (including the BIDET) at about 5.35am.. Breakfast was from 6.30am followed by a 7.45am departure for catching the midday Ferry to Europe!

(On the balcony at 6.15 am, I saw a beautiful Crescent Moon- like a bowl with its open side upwards!) Breakfast included fried potatoes and a 'sausage' (a 'below-par' item, giving the impression that it was recycled trash from someone's toilet!!) I tried to recover with a walk in the hotel garden with its 'bird-like' vases in abundance. THAT was VERY pleasant. There was a beautiful view of RABAT from the balcony of the Hilton's Room 708 (mine).

Today's journey takes us from the SUBLIME to the ATROCIOUS (i.e. from RABAT in Morocco to ESTEPONA in Southern Spain)

Text to be continued in the next chapter.
