This is the 22 June 2005 Edition of
this page and shows a complete list of all trips made
'out of England' by me since 1955 when my records began.It
covers, to date, 55 Countries all told, ALL SHOWN HERE. In this context a 'Country'
can be defined as any area having its own parliament (or equivalent).

To date, the approximate extremities of my travels have been:
NORTHERLY limit: 72 deg N
SOUTHERLY limit: 65 deg S (In Antarctica in December 2002!)
WESTERLY limit: 149 deg W
EASTERLY limit: 153 deg E
If anyone wonders HOW MANYcountries there are in this world, one is taken into
difficult waters. There are DIFFERENT lists - and I'll quote them, starting from the smallest, the
quotes come from an article appearing in the press on 8th March 2004 about the "World's Most
Travelled Man".
UN lists - fewer than 200 official countries in the world.
TCC (Traveller's Century Club) - 317 countries
Guinness Book of World Records - 350 countries
DXCC - for 'Radio Hams' list 384 countries
Apart from the UN lists, all these others have questionnable meanings. A 'country' can be a real
country, an uninhabited outpost, an island, an enclave, federation, disputed territory, dependencies,
marine reserves, military installation and so on.
The 'most travelled man', a certain Charles Veley, managed to do, eventually, the 350 figure target
(with 1 million miles of travel in just over 3 years using $1million! Charles admits to, sometimes,
'visiting' five countries in a day! How well do you understand the world with this rate? Mine was a bit more modest in claims
and expense!!)
I've started on a MAJOR PROJECT to get every single report onto
this record. That means every single note I've taken in EVERY SINGLE
COUNTRY in every single YEAR will be included.
[This will, in practice, be LIMITED by my available WEB SPACE from
my SERVER, (ie 25MB) and will, in general only go in detail as far
back as about 1980].
In effect, this Web Will Be Transformed
(eventually) into ROY'S GUIDE TO PLANET EARTH
and will contain my own personal IMPRESSIONS
('Headed' always in that colour) of each area visited. It'll take a long time but it'll
be the biggest guide to the planet from my unique perspective!
