** ROY'S DANCING YEARS **
This page is the 10 December 2004 edition of this page.
Having done many (well, a few!) types of dancing through the years, I now list them and give
some info on each.
TYPES:
Ballroom (1953-1980)
This started with dancing lessons whilst in the 6th Form at Grammar School.
It continued from year to year in local socials, BUTLIN holidays, etc - until I learned
something more interesting!!
In the meantime, I'd bought the 54th edition of the VICTOR SILVESTER book, "Modern
Ballroom Dancing" to help us!
Olde Tyme(1954-1967?)
This started in local socials and came up, randomly, from time to time!
Rock & Roll (1962-1988)
This started during some Butlin holidays and continued 'on and off' until self (or
partners) ran out of breath!
Barn Dances (1969-1980's)
This started during holidays with the Camping & Caravan Clubs and continued until
indistinquishable from Country or Folk dancing!
Country Dances (1979-1993)
These were taken up from my first joining a Country (&Western!) Club. It proved to
be the best thing that we'd done!
American Square Dancing (1981-1993)

This proved to be even better, initially more of a challenge - and we seemed to be 'naturals'
to this new art! It started with the Pontins Country Festivals.
English Folk Dancing (1987-1990 [approx])
This was taken up locally for me, - and further afield with my square-dancing partner, - for
added pleasure of the 'called' variety. We even got on CH4 TV in a 'special'.

Line Dancing (1986-1989 [approx])
This was taken up during our regular PONTIN's western weeks throughout the Country.
Whilst obtaining certificates in this form of dancing, with the initial instructors from the
USA, I soon 'fell-out' with it as it was a ruiner of the Square-dance sessions.
