** Madness in Egypt **

This is the 31 January 2005 edition of this page and shows the breakdown of this travelogue into its various chapters - thus :
  1. Prior Thoughts
  2. Ancient Egypt versus 'Modern'
  3. Police inefficiences, or "Cock-ups in Cairo"
  4. Egypt-Air (Enough said!!)
  5. Who's "going down" next?
  6. Aswan & Abu Simbel
  7. ON & OFF THE 'NILE-BOAT'
  8. Who's going there next? (Anyone??)
  9. Egyptian Stomach (alias 'gyppy tummy') and then HOME

This, like "An Arctic Adventure","Winter Tales" and others, was being produced as a prototype book. Progress was halted to give more attention to "WINTER TALES", "FABULOUS RUSSIA", and predominantly to the Promotion Stages of "AN ARCTIC ADVENTURE".

The first draft of this travelogue WILL NOT be completed as a 'conventional' book. Despite (or because of) the large amount of travelling these last few years, there was also NO possibility of further books being started!! In fact NO FURTHER BOOKS will appear as 'books' in the conventional sense - but, like this one, as further INTERNET travelogues on THIS Web-Site.

GETTING A PRE-READ ABOUT THE VOYAGE

Realising that any completion of the travelogue is far 'down the line', it maybe quicker for you to read the trip summary in the 1996 story in its Egypt Notes. You will find more than the above chapter titles. These notes chart my movements- all made in September of that year. However, the full textual details of all journeys on that trip will eventually, but gradually, appear in each respective 'Chapter' through their 'links' above.

Meanwhile, here's me half-way up the GREAT PYRAMID!!

    On Pyramid.

    GENERAL NOTES

This travelogue is unusual in that it is against my normal scheme of things. As stated in other places, I like, and very much prefer, the cooler temperatures where "one can think without being cooked". Egypt was never likely to be one of these, -- just the opposite!! The coolness, being absent, meant that a 'book' was unlikely to be written.
However, the HEAT caused so many problems, - to everyone - that it gave rise to situations that make interesting reading, as the chapter headings imply!

    IMPRESSIONS OF EGYPT

The Country is unique in its fantastic antiquities, its Police Incompetence, its over- zealous street salesmen, its money-grabbing culture, its vast numbers of uncompleted buildings, its disregard for animal welfare.
In all, a MUST for a visit, - but ONLY the once!!.
