Roy on settee.

(However, during and after my excursion to Antarctica, my facial hairgrowth had vastly extended - although on 16 June 2003, it was all REMOVED!!)

WHO READS THIS WEBSITE??
Proven readership comes from many countries. See the 'Contacts list' for which countries!!

The CURRENT STRUCTURE covers FIVE main Sections:

i.e:-

As this MAIN INDEX shows, this web fulfils several objectives:-

  • ROY PETERS : "THIS IS YOUR LIFE!!",
  • It is my MAGNUM OPUS!!
  • Shows how I THINK.
  • Shows where I've BEEN - and where I'm GOING.
  • It is the 'ROY PETERS NEWSLETTER' - for friends and relations!
  • My AUTO-BIOGRAPHY (the elements and index of this have been completed!)
It will retain and expand its links to other relevant web-sites which have been present for quite a while now.

To understand how this web-site/newsletter gets produced, it is well worth while going to our editor's guide to the Production Cycle or the frequently asked questions about ROY, his life, - and this web-site.

The latter link lets you know (answers to Q11) about my past computers at home, including the Pentium(2)! Similarly, the answers to Q12 deal with past computers at work!!

+++ TECHNICAL SECTION +++

Well, I AM a retired scientist - so this will probably NOT surprise you!!

It covers the Technology Reports that I've written on the World Land Speed Record, some articles and reports on my mind-games and others' practices of FUN USE of rockets, PLUS some more recent items that deal with SPACE projects by NASA and others.

Early in AD2000, I came across the pre-acceptance draft of a space-travel article that I wrote in 1953 for my school magazine when in the sixth-form (science). In that article, I wrote (and I quote) "The journey itself should be accomplished comfortably before 1970, for the moon, ....". That was in an era when the 'accepted wisdom' was that the moon would be in the 1990-2010 timescale! It pre-dates JFK's famous speech made on 25 May 1961 (about "..this Nation sending men to the Moon - and returning them safely to Earth") - but the method used by NASA and my prediction were almost identical!! Thanks, Jack. Nice one!!!

[It even pre-dates the first space-flight (Yuri Gagarin - 1961) by EIGHT YEARS, and all the subsequent developments and advances.]

PROFESSIONAL (Scientific) writings

Roy's CV (Final Version was dated 19 September 1995!) shows writings on a very great range of technical topics - very few accessible to the general public because of their 'classified' nature. There is a total of 38 publications, covering the period from 1954 to 1994. I retired from my scientific profession in December of 1996.

+++ MUSICAL SECTION +++

Roy's Music interests?

In my very early years, even up to the early 50's I was (curious, it seems now!) into CLASSICAL music and 'music from the SHOWS' - that was inherited from my parents (my father with his fine voice, on request at social gatherings, would sing songs from many shows that he and my mother had visited).
In the fifties, I found a deep interest in
TRADITIONAL JAZZ and attended many shows with my wife (in our 27 year marriage) for a number of years.
When I first heard Jim Reeves sing, probably in the early 60's, I was immediately attracted to his style of 'COUNTRY'. I joined in, with friends in Malvern around 1976, to form our first COUNTRY MUSIC CLUB - and belonged to many others until 2001.

Later, in the 'Eighties' , I got involved with, and attended, many residential COUNTRY MUSIC FESTIVALS. In my development of this web-site, I've started and am expanding on, the multitude of activities at such wonderful musical events. They were a dominating aspect of my life in that decade - spilling over into other activities.

Since selling my FINAL car early in 2001, my attendance (in the UK) at these events has terminated. I, therefore, rely on records, tapes, CDs, videos, radio, TV and shows during my tours, for these events!!

+++ TRAVELOGUES WRITTEN OR BEING PREPARED +++

The problems with publishers, (mine went into Voluntary-Liquidation on 21 Nov 2001) photographic copyrights, delays -- and just having to deal with so many other people, including the TAX MAN, on different time-scales have lead me to the conclusion that, perhaps, a COMPLETE DIY operation is called-for!!

Thus, now, I take ONLY my own digital photos [and scan-in my OWN 35 m.m photos], am my own publisher (Internet) and write with LESS delays, and I can do things a lot quicker. Not only stories, but lists, journey summaries, reports, plans, book (or travelogue) summaries, and travelogue texts themselves are included. Any given trip, or exploration, now appears in each category - as appropriate. THAT started 'way back' in October '98 in edition 53 of this Web-Site.

Meanwhile, back to the existing list of true stories of real honest travel:-
Unless otherwise stated, each of the travelogues is COMPLETE.
(Numbers 2-14 have been promoted to INTERNET ONLY!)

  1. An Arctic Adventure(Published as book - Nov '97)
  2. Winter Tales (Also exists in a full DTP version)
  3. Icelandic Dreams
  4. Fabulous Russia
  5. Canadian Adventure
  6. Madness in Egypt
  7. With the Lapps of the Gods
  8. Morocco Bound
  9. PERU, in the Steps of Von Daniken
  10. Chinese Experiences (99% complete - only photos to go!)
  11. Alaska -2002
  12. ANTARCTIC ADVENTURE -2002 (about 90% done!)
  13. Exploring Australia (1998) (about 68% done to date- with links)
  14. The FLORIDA Travelogue (1997)

TV PLAY

"You can't bloody beat 'em".

My first draft of this was written back in the 'sixties' based on personal experiences in the fifties and sixties. It is in the correct format required by the BBC and ITV script-editors at the time. Rather than update it to my present style, it seems more appropriate to leave it with the words and thoughts of the 'sixties'. It is based on Humanist themes of the times.

Although several files per day get an update, this site receives a re-installation, on average, each 21 days, although it had increased, and more lately decreased, with the 'last-ten' averaging a 16 day interval. (Thus, now, THIS is, essentially, a FORTNIGHTLY publication. Things have been getting quicker from Edition 135 onwards!). For the actual edition-to-edition statistics, see the site's web - statistics.

The LONG TERM GROWTH of the site is dealt with in the Growth Module.

CARRY ON SURFING (and Travelling) !!!
