++ NIAGARA '98 ++

This is the 11 March 2005 edition of this page showing the outline of this fabulous Trip to Niagara and Toronto and includes some digital photos taken there.

OCTOBER: NIAGARA AND TORONTO.

This was impressive although can't compare with the raw beauty of Iceland.

Some of the interesting points were, in October 1998:-

Date ....... Travel/visits ....... Sleep

9October(Friday) Coach from Malvern Link

                 Coach tour of city Toronto
                 Transfer to hotel

10 Underground to Union Station.
                 The preparations, done at home,
               for Toronto exploration showed
that there are park areas near
Lake Ontario - and THAT was
probably the best place to be. Ditto
On arrival there, it proved to
be true for us country lovers who
               dislike towns. That 'underground'
was to be our 'escape route' to the
               Lake!!
               Boardwalk around Lake Ontario
                (Northern Shore)- included
               ExhibnPark & Canadian
               National Exhibition. Then
               back to Hotel

Icedome near CN Tower.
11 The Icedome, near the foot of the CN Tower, proved to be a VERY interesting strucure, being a multilevel multi-sports arena. The tour would have taken too much time, but I found that by looking in detail at the marvellous plans in the foyer, one could make a MIND-TOUR on one's own without time and expense of guides. Also did own CN Tower previews. 'Harbour Fest' activities. Ditto MacIntyre's C&W/Folk Band.ExhibnPark & Canadian National Exhibition

CN Tower shot.

14 Canadian and American parts of Niagara Ditto "Maid of the Mist" boat trip at base of Falls. 15 Last-minute sightseeing in Niagara. Walked to USA over bridge. Further use of People- Mover buses. Coach to Toronto. Plane Flight (CM327) from Toronto at 18.15 hrs 16 Arr Birmingham 0615hrs Coach to Malvern Malvern

OVERALL IMPRESSIONS OF NIAGARA & TORONTO

Toronto, for a 'country-boy' like me, is just another city! However, by analysing the maps before travelling, it was possible to find 'desirable' stretches like the 'walking' options around the delightful Lake Ontario. A quick underground trip from near the hotel took us quickly to near the Lake. From then on, it was pure pleasure.

Furthermore, by catching boats, one could get to - and ENJOY even more - the walks on the close-by islands. The seascapes and walks made the desirable contrast to 'just another city'.

The CANADIAN Niagara Falls was an awesome and beautiful display of nature. Far more impressive than the American Niagara, the Canadian Horseshoe Falls were close to them and both were simultaneously visible to anyone with wide-angle eyes!!

Both Niagaras were inferior as a 'spectacle' to Iceland's Gullfoss - but one could FEEL the POWER of Niagara which is reduced nowadays to decelerate the erosion process. Mind you, without 'erosion', the 'Horseshoe' could not have been created!!
