** PHOTOGRAPHIC MEMORIES **

Having wanted, a few decades ago, to view again some old photos that I'd remembered taking - I was
left with the amazing, baffling conclusion that I hadn't even taken them!! My very complete records had
distinct GAPS where I had expected them to be.
I had noticed that my memories of the missing photos were very REAL and POWERFUL. Subsequent
searches on the appropriate maps of the area revealed an even more amazing FINDING.
I moved my finger over the map (just the way that I do when 'following' a route) and a whole series of
pictures, that I forgotten, (but including the missing ones) appeared in my mind.
I've since developped this further to make even greater use of the 'memory'. What appears to be
happening is that viewing a scene, whilst working with a map, makes a 'video recording' which
superimposes itself on the map. By then moving my right index-finger over the (preferably) same
map - even many years later - causes a replay in my mind which is quite staggering in its vividness.
In January of this year, I had been following such a 'recording' about my Journey through Germany into
Austria - and, to my horror, the recording was, no longer, there! Wondering how this had 'come about',
I moved my finger back along this road (an Autobahn) until the vision reappeared. Having, thankfully, found
this 'recording', I then replayed it through more slowly this time.
To my amazement, I viewed a scene which I'd forgotten - that of the congested autobahn and of our coach
being diverted OFF onto a sideroad. So I let my finger follow a sequence of side-roads (bringing back all
the off-road scenery to my mind) until the point where we rejoined the autobahn!
So if, like an earlier very-old-lady passenger (in 1999), you are sitting next to me and I am spending a lot
of time pointing to my map whilst going through beautiful scenery, you needn't make the (apparently helpful)
comment that I'm missing beautiful scenery. As I had to explain to her " I am still watching the scene but am
placing a recording of it onto my map for later REPLAY!" If I didn't use the map in that way, I do not know
any way of recording such memories.
