The umpteenth Country Music Festival that I attended at
the PRESTATYN was at the 'Prestatyn Sands' site was back in 1985
This one ran for less than a week, and this was from
28 December 1985 until 2 January 1986 .
There were many performers, at a phenomenally economic
entrance fee (thanks to the 'vision' of the late Bob Chappell).
Apart from the musical attractions (my main reason for going) there were
many other attractions like:-
Country Music quizzes
Talent competitions
Country Dancing
Fast-draw competitions
Square Dancing
Country Music Films
.. and my new Lady Friend!
First, then, I needed to collect my lady-friend as she made her way Northwards from Bath
(at a British Rail station in Birmingham) and take her, first, to my Country-singing friend
Trevor (and his wife, Josie) in Erdington. We were then to continue - hopeful about
the weather at this time of year- in my car to NORTH WALES.
The journey was terrific - good weather ALL the way. After settling in to our chalet for a
good relaxing night, we were surprised and delighted the following morning to find several
inches of SNOW covering the whole site. (Well, we made it THERE - but how would we
get back South when 'it is all over?)
It was pleasant in our 'wellies' going about this 'unusual new year extravaganza' - the usual
PONTIN C&W friendliness and atmosphere prevailing!!
Performers appearing were:
Hickory Lake
Campbells Country
Ben Rees Band
Kenny Johnson and North Winds
Jeannie Dee Trio
Tone Howard as Square-Dance Caller
Armadillo
The Moat Brothers
Tammy Cline & Southern Comfort
Duffy Brothers
Free American Airforce
GEORGE MOODY & Country Squires

Don D Williams & Doreen Savage
(In his persuasive way, Don got me and my lady friend
'involved' in his act. Similarly, a year or two later he got
me and other friends involved in a different 'act'!!)
RAYMOND FROGGATT BAND
Jeff Cliffson (now without his ex-wife)
Buckskin
Dave Cox Country Disco
Stu Page & Remuda
Mel Hague Duo
Clinton Ford
Hank Walters & Dusty Road Ramblers
Country Couple
WEST VIRGINIA
The Down County Boys
The Yellowstone Picnic band
The day before the end of this GREAT music festival, the snow started melting!! It had
maintained the 'festive appearance' all the way through! For our journeys back - the snow
had completely disappeared - and another great travelling day was had AGAIN.
(Very few photos from this musical extravaganza were taken - sorry folks'!!)
That was sure "one hell of a line-up" - and was the continuation of a
decade with my support.
