** WORLD LAND-SPEED RECORD **
WORLD LAND SPEED RECORD
This is the 19 Feb 2005 edition of this particular
page and is your access page to all editions of my regular
briefings & reports since January 1995. Many have been
published entirely on the Internet (reports 22 onwards).
The approximately monthly pre-web newsletter ran from its
first report and briefings on 30 January 95 until No21 on 2
December 96. Some of these are being transcribed to hypertext
for their inclusion here.
New re-structuring of this area
Access to the various reports has been divided into:-
(a) up to Al Jafre Desert (ThrustSSC)
This covers reports 1-23.
See pre-Black-Rock-links
here.
(b) Black Rock Campaigns (1997) onwards
This covers reports 24-34.

reports
with this link!
Since Report No 30, the whole WLSR scene has been
'downbeat'. Clearly, ThrustSSC has achieved its supersonic
objectives and ceased runs. Others have not been ready to
continue
their attempts.
According to clues on their respective 'sites',
Craig and Rosco could be ready at some-times in the future!!
. [See my clippings in Report No 33 and
Report No 34 ].
New Studies
THRUST SSC established the main result of the Supersonic runs is that, in addition to
the damage inflicted on the car, the TRACK was even more
affected. Thus, the shock-wave had the effect of pulverising
the
desert before any wheels made contact with the track that they
were aiming at!! A pulverised desert means the car sinks in,
encounters even MORE resistance to motion, and a reduction in
both lateral and longitudinal stabilities result. I am now
researching the WAY FORWARD in the light of these effects -
and
would welcome any EMails from interested readers. It may mean
the
end of WLSR as we know it, under the existing rules.
Sure enough, an 'answer' has been forthcoming. In a 'link'
I
received via the 'Aussi Invader Site', Waldo Stakes will
reduce
the effect by a drastically reduced vehicle mass and frontal
cross-
section. That is covered in the 'Sonic Wind' entries in
Report No 31 .
Also, as predicted, it will be under a
different set of rules!!!
Access Report No 32 for a British
attempt on the Rocket-powered bike record.
STEAM-CAR WLSR
Various members of the ThrustSSC team (notably Glynne plus
Jeremy Davey) now find themselves with a new challenge.

ANOTHER LINK
I have received an interesting link (via EMail) to the
which receives the linkage only if you are Java-enabled.
You can link to Chris
Smith at the 'recordshop' quite easily!!
