    STATUS OF BOOK

This, like "An Arctic Adventure" and "Winter Tales", was being produced as a DTP (Desk-top Published) book, mounted very similarly to both of them. The transference to Word Processor was almost static for 1997 and 1998, but slow progress recommenced in 1999 & 2000 and the draft was approximately completed by the start of 2001.

Now, with all writings, I am skipping the hard-manuscript edition between 'notes taken at the time' and 'WordProcessor Input'. This had been slowing progress - so I now go DIRECT from actual notes taken at the time to their insertion into hypertext for the web - on these pages!! Moreover, this change also applies to ALL other writings.

In this travelogue, I give the story behind, and about, my much requested, heavily annotated, album of 200 photos taken throughout Russia during my 1995 trip there. The 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 and even 2002 travels (and their organising) have taken an increasing proportion of my time. Great fun though!!

    IMPRESSIONS OF St. PETERSBURG

Probably the most beautiful city on this planet. That was my view back when my 1994 trip was made. Two argumentative English women, during that trip, had said to me (you can't have seen Prague yet!) . I hadn't at that time - but vowed to myself that "I ought to". Having visited Prague in 1999, I haven't changed my view on that matter!

Since my Baltic trip, in 1998, and its coverage of St. Petersburg, those views and writings in Chapter 12 have been slightly modified. Due to Financial problems, that ex-wonderful City had gone DOWN tremendously in that THREE years - and the decoration is in a sorry state except for SOME very well preserved buildings.
