** PERU - IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF VON DANIKEN **
This is the 27 June 2005 Edition of
this page.
Off to PERU to find the INCA Trail (& NAZCA lines)!!!
For this trip, I needed to get the 'go-ahead' from my doctor about the advisability of the HIGH ALTITUDE, for
example the 3300metres at Cusco!! My doctor said "10000 feet is OK, but don't go
above 14000feet". So the INCA TRAIL was ON! I booked for 18 June 2001 until
early July as that is the coolest part if the year in Equatorial PERU! (Just in the Southern Hemisphere!)
I'd be doing my 'extension' to the Nazca Lines.
The plan was to fly over them rather than obtain
ground-experience of them!!
Apart from that 'extension', the rest of the exploration had some 'goodies' in it:-
Like:::
Lima - thats virtually at SEA-LEVEL!
Arequipa - at 2325 metres (7750 ft) for acclimatisation!
Juliaca - at 3822 metres (12740ft) - my first Altiplano experience
Puno - 3830 meters (on shores of Lake Titicaca!) - breathing more carefully here!
Sillustani - climbed to about 13800 feet here
Lake Titicaca - at 3830 metres (12767ft) - the World's highest navigable Lake
Cusco - at 3326 metres (11087ft)
Machu Picchu (Lost City of the Incas) - from 2700 meters (9000 ft and VERY HILLY!!)
I made the journey to some of the areas written about by that very
interesting German writer, Erich Von Daniken.
His books, even the ones that I have, include:-
- Chariots of the Gods
- Return to the Stars
- The Gold of the Gods
- Miracles of the Gods
- In Search of Ancient Gods
In the theses covered in these books, HE covers material from the ancient
Inca Civilisations of Peru, whilst
I covered the INCA TRAIL and
the Nazca Lines near Cuzco.
