This page is the edition dated 15 June 2005. This table shows columns, respectively, of:-
(i) Edition Number,
(ii) total files in own web,
(iii) its size in KBytes,
(iv) installation Date and
(v) the time for each 'cycle' in days.
The data is extracted from a spreadsheet for cycle-time calculations. It only includes data back to the 7th Edition on the "Configuration Record". The overall average cycle-time is also shown. To the nearest Integer, this has been constant for OVER a couple of years - but because the number of files installed and requiring updates has been increasing (since 'Pentiumisation'), so the average has been creeping up when one looks at 'tenths of days'!! To keep tabs on recent (i.e the last 10) 'updates', THAT average is also given. The process is more and more like that circus/cabaret act where the performer sees how many plates can be kept spinning at the top of thin rods. It gets progressively more difficult to add an extra one whilst servicing those about to fall off!! The cycle-time is seen, below, to vary between Four days and SIXTY THREE days, depending on the availability of (a) new material and (b) Roy. The actual distribution of cycle times follows the table. That is for a special reason. Because BT charges less for calls at weekends, there was expected to be a 'clumping' of 'installations' around 7,14,21 days etc. Thus, alternate bins cover multiples of One-week (plus and minus one-day). Thus humps were found at 6-8, 13-15, 20-22 days. Apart from the disappearance on the 'single week' HUMP, the only disturbance to this is the real HIGH shoulder between one and two weeks. With BT's current charges, where ANY evening is almost the same as weekend rates, this effect should disappear eventually. Whilst I used to strive for weekend re-installations, that is no longer the case!
